Trudy Crane: Life Keeps Getting Better—Modeling and Transformation.
Transformation is at the center of Trudy Crane’s mentality. Rather than fearing change, she cherishes her growth, renewal and constant development. Age is beautiful for Trudy. At 63, her success in modeling is at the top of the Canadian industry. She fills a space in fashion that has seldom been filled before. There is no limit in sight. Her white hair, which began to come in at the age of 23, has remained undyed for decades. The long, pale color, that she once wished to hide, has become her natural signature. Embracing fluidity and evolution has allowed Trudy to discover a lasting happiness and a profound sense of hopefulness. At 52, she left her previous career of 30 years in the fashion industry to become an artist, published a book several years later, and subsequently, at 59, engaged in modeling itself. Trudy has now been featured in FASHION magazine, worked for top Canadian cosmetic brands, as well as Holt Renfrew, the foremost luxury brand in the country. As she says: “life keeps getting better.”
Despite being a veteran of fashion, having spent three decades in the industry as a marketer, experiencing it from in front of the camera has been a fresh adventure: “working as a model myself has been an eye-opening experience.” She began modeling casually in Montreal, working for a variety of photographers in the city, considering it as a fun, challenging sortie into a new element, in which she might realize some unknown part of herself. Soon, however, Trudy was discovered and the potential of a new career in modeling became serious. With her passion for modeling, and her substantial knowledge of the industry, to capitalize on the opportunity was an evident decision.
With the camera now facing her, Trudy has stepped into a “realm of pure fun and imagination.” The world of modeling, dictated by fantasy, creativity and beauty, is for her a space of freedom, joy and empowerment. Modeling, as Trudy does it, has come to be a symbol of the grace and beauty of aging, of the profound elegance and charm of all ages: “Aging should be celebrated, and I've come to see it as a gift.” The industry is making progress in this direction, she finds, though many models, young and old, still face the immense pressure of maintaining a flawless, youthful appearance. Trudy herself takes as first and foremost her own comfort and confidence, as well as a healthy lifestyle, supported by a vegan diet, exercise and quality skincare.

Outside of modeling, Trudy creates ceramic art in her studio, discovering in this passion of hers a deeply soothing, relaxing aspect that has delighted her for 11 years. She finds a wealth of hope in her daughter, the growth, kindness and love of which alights her with joy and optimism. The newness of the future continues to fascinate Trudy, as each fresh new experience, travel destination, endeavor or artwork reminds her of the fullness and the possibility of life. Trudy’s happiness is this very change itself, always newly blooming, always newly revitalized, while she fearlessly follows her own path along this everchanging road.
Transformation, grace and courage: at 63, Trudy’s modeling journey has only just begun.
